Harvest Super Moon | 09.28.2023

Harvest Super Moon | 09.29.2023
Saratoga County, New York

The term "Harvest Moon" refers to the full moon that occurs nearest to the autumnal equinox, which usually falls in September or early October. This moonrise is unique because, during this time of the year, the moonrise happens shortly after sunset for several days in a row. This rapid succession of moonrises gave farmers extra light in the evenings, allowing them to continue harvesting their crops even after the sun had set. Hence, it was called the Harvest Moon because it provided additional light for farmers working late into the night to harvest their crops before winter.
